These different battery chemistries each have their own strengths and weaknesses and may be affected by environmental and operational considerations. Lithium Ion and Nickel Metal Hydride, for example, have different characteristics. Lithium ion (li-ion) generally delivers significantly greater capacity and power than Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), but has a tendency to be less stable and requires greater design complexity to ensure that it is safe for handling and usage (especially when being re-charged).
